Is there anybody in the North Devon area experienced in SRT who is willing to help some old foggees, with no experience of SRT to go down a couple of inclines? Thanks

Come North of the border into Mendip and I'll be able to give you a few pointers!
Better to regret something you have done - than to regret something you have not done.

Thanks I was trying to entice people to come to Combe Martin and take us under their wing, there are 2 inclines that nobody's been down before to the best of our knowledge

Me and a friend might be up for it....... however if you have never done it you will need above ground training first...

Where are you based? Can't leave it too late in the year as the mine floods making it completely inaccessible. If you are interested send me a pm

Without giving away locations if you want them confidential.
It may help people to understand what is required if you give some details.
Are these walking inclines at a reasonable slope?
Or are they roofing shafts at a steep angle?
How deep are they, one pitch or multiple?

Hello
They are easy to get into and in such a smallish village location not many people know of its existence, strange. There are some videos on you tube of it, if you are interested I will tell you where to view them and it will probably answer your questions.

Video shows error message! But if you can see my hand shining a torch down an incline with a ledge a short way down that's it.

That's great thanks, video is working now and that is the correct one. The first incline is a tad damp but the other one looks ok.

second incline looks like an ore pass, and as some one said in the vid it dips to a steeper angle, following the lode? your right to get roped up, you never know when the angle is going to change, 1st incline looks to have timbers of to the right, could be some workings behind them, theres water going down the first as well, taking all in to account there could be an adit at the bottom with a discharge of water, have you found it? have you got plans for the mine?

Firstly we have no proper plans only some that a mr Cooke done a few years ago and they only go down as far as you can see so not much use. There are 5 props on the right as you had noticed, been there since 1876 so can't be doing much good I wouldn't imagine. The first incline was driven at a different time to the other as it continues up a rise to the surface ( covered over many years ago). I have been down to that ledge you can see in the second one and if you lean right over there is a flooded shaft at the bottom, need to get a weight and line down it to find the depth. As for the adit suggestion, the water must be going somewhere most probably into deep adit which our mine is connected to.
