Me and Lee W went to King Edward Mine on our whistle stop 3 day photography trip of Cornwall ending yesterday (26th Oct)... Where we spotted this 🙂 ...

And looking a bit closer this... 😮

🔗Personal-Album-856-Image-90513[linkphoto]Personal-Album-856-Image-90513[/linkphoto][/link]

"ENGLAND" seems to be deliberately and obviously painted out in a way that... err... looks dreadful! And sort of gives a bit of a mixed signal to visitors, perhaps more so if from England... Wonder if the museum management are aware?:flowers:

Any way no harm done as I had some cream paint in the car so we did this....

We DIDN'T really put it back, I faked the last one   🙂

Has anyone thought to actually ask K.E.M. why the painting was done?

yes the management are well aware of it, and who did it.
It will probably get sorted out next time the crusher needs a coat of paint.
Seriously I think it was done lightheartedly.
anyone who knows anything about Holmans knows it was a Cornish company through and through, certainly mines across the Tamar as well as the tin were a good market for them though...
speaking as an outsider (from Somerset) just remember most of the born and bred (ie. generations back) Cornish dont consider themselves a part of England, never have. and thats regardless of what London says. you got to admire their conviction at least (got no love for those in power)

If you thought the Welsh, Scottish & Irish sepratists were enough.
A quick Google search:- :smartass:

"The Cornish National Liberation Army, abbreviated to CNLA, was a terrorist Cornish nationalist organisation that has threatened to carry out acts of vandalism and arson against commercial targets that it considers to be English.
The CNLA was founded in 2006, allegedly by Stuart Ramsay born in Plymouth, Devon,[citation needed] and claims to represent a merger of the An Gof (originally founded in 1980 and reformed in 2007) and the Cornish Liberation Army. It claims to receive funding from organisations based in other Celtic nations and Irish American groups in the United States, and that some of its members have received training from the Free Wales Army, the Scottish National Liberation Army, and the Irish National Liberation Army, as well as the Provisional Irish Republican Army.

hooray, more former mining buildings are going to be stripped out and repurposed! to quote a well know mining film 'all in the name of progress, for a few lousy bob'
not enough for the site to be a museum to mining heritage and teaching

I know a few Cornishmen who would rather not consider themselves to be English, I even learnt quite a bit of Cornish at one point, both are keen mine enthusiasts.

I think this must be a Beacon/Troon thing and not a Camborne paint out, as my attached picture was taken at its previous location in Camborne in 2007

I always thought of Selston, Jacksdale, and Pinxton as part of Derbyshire anyway, just a little misplaced

So a guy from Plymouth, in DEVON, started this little fan club?

I see, I think?
