I'm busy over the weekend. Jamie and I went for a root around earlier and had a look at Wheal Glynn. Interesting. I have a feeling this might be the one with the fancy chimney. The photos on aditnow of the adit are wrong. We couldn't find the adit, or evidence of it, but what is thought to be the adit is merely a channel through the dump. The shaft is open, about 6x10ft (pretty big) and inclined about 30 degrees. The edge of it looks a bit nasty. Lovely and surprising engine house remains. I'm going to go back and have a look down the shaft at some point. I imagine there will be workings above adit.

Also had a look at Treveddoe mine (warleggan pit). What a bloody hole that is. No way of climbing down into the pit without a rope and the level into the pit has a serious gate on it. Odd place to go putting a bloody great big gate on a place. Also found a choked shaft there.

The East Jane gating was I believe done by Cornwall Wildlife Trust, while Goonzion was by Caradon DC at the same time as a lot of work done jointly with the Duchy around Phoenix.
There are quite a few unrecoded adits scattered round the area some of which I have details of from a bat survey done in the area. We were shown some intersting sites many years ago by a landowner, a little east of East Jane. One adit was totally filled up with 19thC bottles, he was keen for us to dig this out but we never got to go back.

At Treveddoe you really shouldn't be there without approaching the landowners (the Hanbury-Tenisons) who will no doubt let you have the key & to boot allow you to be lead around the site by their dog (or that's what happened last time I was there).

Slightly of topic for you boys, I have dabbled in mine exploring a few times, mainly in North Wales though. However, I wonder if anyone who has gone digging around the undergrowth in Glyn Valley knows of any rock around? Any boulders? I climb and live locally, but not locally enough to keep driving out to cover the vast amount of slopes in the area.

If anyone has any information, or fancies a buddy to come exploring with you. Give me a shout. Free about 3 days a week.

Sorry for the thread hijak.

Hi yep dropped the shaft behind trago one level going off about 30ft down, then a further 30/40ft to water must be a fair bit of water backed up in there .

Disclaimer: Mine exploring can be quite dangerous, but then again it can be alright, it all depends on the weather. Please read the proper disclaimer.
