I've noticed the engine house at Wheal Albion ,New Mills,Cornwall is for sale. Does anyone know the location of the shaft relative to the engine house?

£80k! I think not.

Odd looking engine house. I wonder if it was an under-beam engine, like Wheal Andrew, or whether it has been very seriously modified.

It seems unlikely to me that it's a multi-purpose one like Daubuz of Wheal Francis where the engine did lots of things include pumping and winding from a shaft in front.

What's the reckoning? £160k

BTW, I gather the river is quite good for Gold panning.

I would guess that its been modified alot, wonder if the shaft is still visible or if its been hidden to help the sale as nobody like to have Mining Feature on the sale

The current owner is claiming no knowledge of the shaft but he has been levelling the site around the house fairly recently - just to tidy up

Anyone even thinking about this place would be crazy not to have a proper survey done and im sure it would have to be part of the sale anyway due to it stating its a converted engine house, I suspect there would be no real issue other that it having to say where the shaft is on any plans of the property but is probably backfilled or most likely full of water and capped
