I am looking for more info than that in Essays in Mining History which describes it as a prospecting adit for copper. Why was it called Luskey? The Luskey family seem now to have disappeared from the area but my relatives married into the Luskey family in North Hill in 1729. When was the adit opened? Thanks

Wheal Luskey worked in the 1880's I think, reports published in the Mining Journal. Will look out for any more info.

From Dines 1956

Luskey.-Reputed to be a copper mine, this is only a prospecting adit with entrance near and about 20' ft. above the level of the River Lynher, 5 furlongs S.E. of Trebartha Lemarne Mine(6” Cornwall 22 S.W.). The adit, as a crosscut S. 28° W., entered granite at 10 fms. and picked up the lode, coursing about E. 22° N. and underlying 10° S., at 17 ftms. The lode followed for 70' ftms. W. is a crack with red stained granite walls, with here and there a filling, up to 5 in. wide, of quartz and red haematite, occasional patches of chlorite with pyrite, and some copper stains. There are three shallow winzes in the floor of the level at 28 ftms., 47 ftms. and 87 ftms. from the adit entrance.

I went in this Adit some years ago and there was some very nice secondary copper flows on the walls, not much to explore however only one level ending in a natural wall an one side drive over a shallow winze likewise.

will look out the pics if anyone is interested.

Just checked my notes, there were agents' reports as I thought published in the Mining Journal in the 1880's. A thorough search might reveal details of landowners etc,. particularly if a prospectus was ever published.

There's an adit about 100ft to the left of the entrance to luskey, anyone know where that leads, it looks like it heads in the direction of the farm house, but can't find any information on it, the water level was high when I visited so I decided not to go in,

I explored Luskey c1980. At that time, about half-way in there was considerable blue-green secondary copper deposition.

Disclaimer: Mine exploring can be quite dangerous, but then again it can be alright, it all depends on the weather. Please read the proper disclaimer.
