Does anybody recognise the Cornish tin mine in the Wycliffe episode "The Tangled Web"? (I'd upload my photo of it from the TV screen if there were any instructions as to how it's done!!) It's about 25 minutes into the episode. It stands behind (slightly uphill of) a white-painted bungalow. I thought Condurrow or Basset mines at Carnkie but my photo album doesn't show anything like this mine. So perhaps it's elsewhere.....

If you follow the "My AditNow" menu and go to your "Personal Album", there will be an option to "Click here" to upload a photograph. Think it's in a box near the top.

If the photo is to go to an existing mine in the database, then Vanoord has written a guide here:

I've got the picture in my album on this site but how to I get it into this reply? If I click on Img (above this box), it orders me to insert the image but doesn't tell me how! (it wants a image_url thing......)

Thanks Simon! I understand the process now.

Now, roll on an identification by somebody......

it ISN't Charlotte or Uny (In my opinion) - those are the two mines listed as locations in other Wycliffe episodes.
I saw this episode last year and was wandering as well. If I see it again, will record it and get more shots. (A DVD recorder could work well if you then played it back on a PC).

Trevoole - Check the piccies by Carnkie on the database, the windows do not match, there should be a wall rather than a hedge and there are no power lines seen.
This is starting to bug me (where it is that is!) ::)

I'm glad it's not a trivial question!!

It hadn't occurred to me that it might be Trevoole Mine--I remember often cycling down that road from Camborne in the school holidays, way back in the sixties.

Don't forget, the episode was originally screened in 1994 and so things may have changed a little since then.

To bring this thread up to date, in todays Western Morning News, Trevoole Engine House is up for sale along with a new property in the grounds.
The Engine House has full planning approval for conversion into a two bedroom residential dwelling.

£700,000 through Miller and Son if interested! 🙂

£700k. For that price, is it finished?

£700k would be a fair price for Wheal Coates pump house as is.

Where it is and what's next to it, they'd be lucky to get £150k IMO.

It would appear that you are purchasing a 4 bed bungalow which looks really nice inside, and the engine house is a extra. Its not often that you get planning to convert these days. Bear in mind that Tregurtha Downs when it was last sold went for nearly £300,000.

It would be interesting to see what conditions are place upon the planning. You might be paying upfront for the privalege of having planning permission to convert, rather than when you get planning at a later stage.

I just need to raid the shoe box under the bed ....

With the bungalow, well, that's a whole different matter then!

Is the shaft still open? If I remember rightly, it wasn't much of a success as mines go.

The Trencrom Mine house was equipped with a 20 year clawback clause associated with "if you get permission".

That is one of the reasons why when my friend attended the auction, she didn't purchase it. 20 years is a long time.

Looks like these people want the money up front with no claw back, which is a good thing.

I have the plans to the mine someplace. It has a reasonable length of adit, which might be worth an explore. Perhaps I'll wait to the engine house is converted ....

I wondered whether it would have been possible for the house to be owned and converted by a private trust. I'm sure it is possible to structure things so that a member of the public cannot figure out who to send the legal stuff to. Obviously, if it's a private individual, they just track you down and start legal proceedings.

Then there is the second option of "putting it back, as was" which I assume would require no permission and then applying for a change of use at a later date.

If I recall rightly, it went for £20k, which isn't very much money, In 20 years, it will have probably hit the £150k mark in real terms, which probably made it a good punt.

I reckon something along the offshore/trust route was probably the way to go for getting around the clawback. Then you have to also assume that the original party has access to the funding which would be required to start proceedings.....

It would have been an interesting thing to test.

I actually remember them doing some filming down near Unity Wood, back when they used to have the bright little arrows with the show's name on it directing crew to the site.

I find its easiest to look at the chimney (if it has one) as I find that they are all very different either in damage, design waisted, not waisted etc... thats how I got to that being Magor's.
