Buckshaft Shaft [old spelling Buckshraft] NGR SO 656 123 Opened 1835, closed 1899 440 yards SSW of Abbotswood A 630 feet Level No 1 at a depth of 335 feet runs northwards for 9200 feet and was connected by cross cuts to St Annal's Shaft qv in 1855. No 2 Level at a depth 470 feet [=A 160 feet] was driven northwards from Shakemantle Land Shaft qv for 12,950 feet. It was connected to St Annal's Shaft in 1876. The total depth to No 3 Level is 620 feet [or A 10 feet]. Level No 3 also connects with the Shakemantle Mines qv. Flooded to just above No 1 Level it has been explored in low water as far as the Shakemantle Mines. It is now used as a water supply. See survey page 19.
