I am going to Dartmoor this w/e.

What's there underground for an easy explore?

Thanks,

Chris.

Hi Chris

I am disapointed that no one has replied, so here is what I know.

On the moor itself, few open adits go far. The exception is the Golden Dagger. A few years ago the adit was open in a sort of a way, but water up to your gills, dont know current situation. SRT entry possible to workings either side of a blockage, but be careful.

Most of the Devon stuff is around Tavistock and Gunnislake, plus of course Great Rock.

Tinminer is the one to ask about this.

You're probably best of contacting Plymouth caving group. All of the caves and a lot of the mines are locked/have access issues or require good map reading skills. There is a good caving hut in buckfastleigh if you want cheap accommodation. (south dartmoor bunkhouse.co.uk)

Thanks so far.
Accommodation is sorted - it's somebody elses 'outdoorsy' weekend.
I don't want to be doing with any complicated access - there's only 3 of us, and I'm the only 'bona-fide' person (i.e. have insurance and belong to a club), so somewhere low-key that can be explored on an ad-hoc basis by walking & crawling around...... No SRT.

TIA,

Chris.

Disclaimer: Mine exploring can be quite dangerous, but then again it can be alright, it all depends on the weather. Please read the proper disclaimer.
