Noticed this on the BBC news web site:

Quote:

One of Devon's highest profile tourist attractions has been saved from permanent closure.

Morwellham Quay has been bought by Simon and Valerie Lister, who run Bicton Park Botanical Gardens near Budleigh Salterton in Devon.

The open-air mining museum went into administration in September 2009, after Devon County Council withdrew its funding.

I reckon that's good news.Based on my last visit it was struggling with numbers. I expect it'll get a revamp. I hope it doesn't go too far to attract numbers (see Poldark Mine, Wendron) but good news all the same.

I liked Bicton Gardens when I went there a year or so back. I would be pleased if they ran Morwellham with the same care and attention. I also think the chap was at the same school as me, so he must be OK,

After a grim few years at Morwellham things are certainly looking up.

Hopefuly the overblown, top heavy and at times inept management structure is a thing of the past as is the well meaning but ill concieved local authority involvement.

If Bicton is anything to go by the future is prospererous. The Listers are intending to continue operating the George & Charlotte Mine (to that end they have comfirmed me as mine manager - an inspired choice).

Let the good times roll!

I was in Cornwall at Easter and passed a sign to Morwellham, I did wonder how things were panning out there

I last visited the place sometime in the mid-90s when it seemed to be a very ambitious project, possibly beyond the resources of the then management

I'm pleased it's still hanging on and hopefully going forward

Very pleased to hear it. It was great having the run of the place for the 2007 NAMHO. Even if some of my gear is still orange....
