This shaft opened itself up in Easter 2008 and is several hundred feet deep. I met the SGMRG guys today on a visit to the South Gloucs and Bristol coalfield (which I have entered on DB in full) who have been assisting the Coal Authority in its capping. I turned up as they were making the road up to the shaft ready for filling. The shaft is quite nice being a stone lined collar and about 8ft Sq I would estimate. The coal authority reckon they are gonna fill it with afew loads... we'll see, its a big shaft!
They have also excavated building remains and footings adjacent to the shaft. Yate No 2 engine house is nearby which is now a dwelling, it originally had a Newcomen engine inside.
