In my haste to put up just a few of the images taken on yesterday's trip to the Edge, I've dropped a few whatsits in setting up the reference to the mines. Can someone please edit or tell me how to.
Grid ref should be SJ859773
Also need to correct spelling in mine description
:flowers:

Other than that it was a very good day out and a big thank you to the DCC leaders. The mines covered were West Mine, Wood Mine and Brynlow Mine which was accessed via Hough Level.

Considering the mining methods the size of West Mine is amazing. So too is the work already done and being undertaken by DCC in stabilising and recovering lost parts of the system. There are some spectacular sights and I would dearly love to go back to do a photo trip. The images I've put up are just quick snapshots.

Peter.

OK guys found out how to edit :stupid:

I've added this image to the set. I know many photographic purists frown on such images but I believe in making full use of limited equipment against the power of software. A few bodies in this picture would have not gone amiss to give a sense of scale. The image has been left uncropped.

For those who were on the trip the "Toilet Seat" is to the left of the picture and the piles of silca sand can be seen too.
The 'Flight Deck" is to the right of the picture.

Approx 90 - 105 degrees at a guess. Anything over that and you start to get the image shifting along the horizontal. I was explaining to the Colonel yesterday about doing 360 panos, the bubble type. I would have like to attempted one in there but its carting the kit. Having said that Alderley is one of those where it is worth it.

This is a poor example I did awhile ago before the days of Fenix & WieLED. http://www.kap.toadstone.com/pdmhs/masson/masson360.html  They are not everybody's cup of tea but good ones can give a sense of space or lack of it to someone who has never been down a hole.

Getting back to extending the capabilities of your standard P & S camera. There are a couple of things to remember.
The nearer the subject is to the camera the greater the distortion and therefore limits the pan distance.
When buying software always try to buy the best you can in terms of ability and ease of use. The most expensive ones are not always the best. I use PTgui as well as the original PanoTools on its own, which is the base engine for PTgui.

Nice panorma Toadstone

Most of the Alderley Edge mines are already in the database (don't worry, I think an umbrella entry is good since they are often referred to collectively).

I wonder would it be worth me moving the photographs to the relevant (West, Wood etc.) mine albums and tagging those individual mine user and archive albums to the Alderley Edge entry?

I think that would be a good idea (but then I don't have to do the work!) It would probably be best done sooner than later so as to minimise the number of photos to be moved.

Thanks Simon, I'm going to have a go at doing some more.

I don't know why I didn't spot that. I looked for some reference and found none hence my addition. I think the Alderley tag should stay as perhaps individual mine names may not be so well known as some other mine systems.

I'm happy to go with whatever you suggest if it doesn't make too much work for you.

Peter.

Ooh that made me seasick! Especially when I moved mouse the wrong way and ended up not knowing which way up I was!

Great effect though!

I've done this now. All photos from the day moved to the User Albums in West, Wood and Brynlow. The albums from Alderley Edge have been removed but I've kept the entry because it'll help people if they're looking for info on Alderley Edge Copper Mines without knowing the mine names.

If anybody has any more photos from the day please do feel free to upload them :flowers: We did West, then Wood then Engine Vein, down to Hough Level and out of Brynlow 🙂
