Thanks to ICLOK and his contacts I've now been able to add a footnote to the story of the above containg the history of the important little engine.

Built 1917 and delivered new to Hayle Towans (given in Peckett order book)
Peckett and Co Works number 1448
Type M5 0-4-0 Tank Loco
Cyls (2) 10" x 15"
Site closed in 1919 but used for storage
Loco sold to J.C.Hill & Co Cwmbran mill in 1924
Then to Whitchurch Hill & Co Ltd wire Works in 1926
Cut up for scrap on site in December 1966.

Interestingly the other Peckett from Cwmbran mill is here on my local preserved railway! :thumbup: Though it is disguised as a GWR loco at moment!

Interesting doc. Roy. I haven't really thought much about this place before but it's actually fascinating and very important. It did employ about 1800 people at one time. I take it you mean the explosion of 1904?

my late great grandfather used to work there...
he used to commute on foot daily from st hilary....

he used to say they wern't all that hot on safety and
he could never figure out how the whole place never got
levelled. ...........................

That's interesting. There is nothing like oral history to get a feel for a place. It's certainly not level now! Just had stroll around taking photos of the remains. A lie down beckons.

If you can find a copy "Cornish Explosives" by Bryan Earl contains a mass of stuff on National, including a fold out plan of the site in 1906, which may help you make sense of your wander.
