Two weeks ago I went for a mooch around Snailbeach Mine unlike on my initial flying visit in 2016 I spent a good two hours there and walked up to the Cornish engine house.

Several books including the recent "Snailbeach District Railways" and interpretation boards on site refer to a Cornish or "Cornish type" engine, however, no builder is mentioned.

Does anyone know the origin of the pumping engine?

Was it constructed at a Cornish works or else where in the UK.

Thanks

Shropshire Mines Trust book on the mine says:

In 1862 the Nags Head Colliery closed and the mine mechanic Vincent Hughes went to take down the engine. The job took 12 days and it was taken to Snailbeach Mine where it was reconditioned.

Could that the engine in question?

Thanks - but I don't think so. The Cornish engine house dates from 1848.
