Watersaw fluorite mine appears in the calendar this year but I've seen it both referred to as Watersaw and Water Saw. Could somebody advise the correct version please? :flowers:

Thanks Adam, we had Watersaw in the name and Water Saw in the description - so I'll make them both Watersaw.

I'll probably then find out that Water Saw was the correct historic name before the two mines combined!

Certainly since the days of the 25"OS the vein has been shown as Watersaw Rake, but just to make things awkward, there are old Barmaster's entries that refer to Water Saw Rake and a 19th Century mine plan shows it as Water Sir Rake! I'd advise sticking with the modern usage since we're dealing with the 20th century fluorspar mine....

Yeah I was there on that trip and I am fairly sure it is called Watersaw.

Certainly used to be, though in the later years of the mines working life it became Sallet Hole No 2.

The management thanks you for your co operation.

Thanks gents :)

The calendar is with the printer at the moment, so if there are any errors in the descriptions please jot them down on the back of a £20 note and send them to my home address :thumb

Became Sallet Hole when the two connected, sadly that connection is now lost due to quarrying and collapses, my friend Antonio has spent many hours in both mines trying to find the old illusive connections and as re-surveyed the place comparing it to the old abandonment plans to see if he could figure out the connections.

Apart from a short section of exposed tunnel and metal supports in the quarry workings nothing else could be found.
