This just popped up on BBC local news, sounds like the CA have been commissioning a load of LIDAR work:

I'd be interested to compare their findings with John Barnatt's work on the coal mines of the western moors (hopefully in Mining History before too long)

Similar practice trenches were found above Redmires Reservoirs near Sheffield.

There are some near Beaumaris, Anglesey too.

It was part of a R&D project to look at more efficient ways of detecting mine shafts etc in rural areas
