The AditNow entry for Tinsley Park includes an excellent historical review but I fear the pushpin on the map is placed about 1.8 km too far NNW of the true location.

Old Ordnance Survey maps show Tinsley Park Collieries (note the plural) on at least three sites spread over 1 km. The No.2 and No. 9 pits are at the western end at SK 3977 8931 near the current roundabout on the Europa Link. Pit No. 7 was 500m to the east at SK 4012 8894, at the western end of Letsby Avenue. Pits numbered 3, 5 and 6 is very close to the runway of Sheffield City Airport at SK 4062 8874. Pits 1, 4 and 8 are not named on the OS map, but there are numerous old shafts and air shafts marked at the western end of the tramway which linked the named pit sites.

For a geographically spread mining complex like this would it be useful from the AditNow (historical) perspective to have separate entries for the individual pit sites (I'm happy to make the entries), or is it sufficient to provide a central location (which would be the No. 7 pit site) ?

Are the numbers the proper names for each pit & are they distinct sites?

If so then can't see any issues with individual entries in the format of Tinsley Park Colliery 1 Pit as for example the various pits at Bedlington Colliery in Northumberland.

The way I generally try to work with a load of numbered pits for a colliery is to put on each pit (or a group of pits if at the same site). This is more accurate and the pits may have at some point been individual mines. A bit more time consuming, but best to have it as best it possible.
On some occasions I have put a note in an over-riding mine entry with each pit in the description and telling you to see the correct mine entry in the system.

Also 9 pits for a colliery complex isn't that many

Thanks.

The pits are grouped in three distinct locations separated by 500m in each direction of the centrally placed No.7 pit.

I also found Pit No.4, close to pits 2 and 9, so only pits 1 and 8 unaccounted for in the OS labels.

I'll enter the three sites later as a single push pin cannot adequately describe a site 1km long.

Should the existing location be modified Lee as its 1.8 km away from the true location?

I'll try to find a map free of copyright issues to illustrate the sites.

If you put some details (in the forum post of pm) about the centre grid ref for Tinsley Park along with any comments that need displaying in the mine entry - the mine entry and decription can be updated.

Tinsley Park No8 Pit is located nearer the M1 and shown on old maps around 440550, 389800
And No7 Pit / West Retford Pit may have been originally Peacock Colliery

I would suggest that the push pin for the complex should be at SK 40100 89200.

Title modification Tinsley Park Collieries

Description addition. "Tinsley park was a complex of pits spread over an area of about 1 sq km. Individual pit groupings to be described as separate AditNow mine entries"

PS the title in the address bar stays as the original (unless the original is deleted and re-created), however the Site name and the one when searching is correct
