Superb visit to this site on 26th October 2012. There is a lot to see and 4 hours slipped by in a jiffy. Whilst the top mine and rail interchange sidings are on private property the owners gave me a guided tour, it can be part accessed by footpath but that will not take you two the 1957 & 59 adits or workshops.
The adits behind Hill Top Farm are accessed from the lorry road and I was told the farmer was ok re going down to them when I asked at the farm. The bottom mine site has multiple adits and some very interesting features like the footpath tunnel under the embankment. Access is from footpath but the embankment is off limits according to signs. None of the adits are accessible and are well and truly blocked despite efforts at Bottom Mine!
The site is a great walk with some fantastic views across to Notts, Lincs, Sth Yorks etc. You may wish to visit the road rail interchange at the bottom of the long lorry road from Top mine heading west which has retained its weighbridge and some rails across the approach road. I have added 3 albums to break down top and bottom mines and a third for the lorry interchange. 🙂
