Anybody know if they've sealed the drifts yet? What was the reason for closure and how many men did it effect?

As far as I can make out the Flack's sold the mine to the 'Chinese' but they did not want to invest an money. It is strange but David Flack was there about a fortnight ago when I visited. At the time the demolition men were in gutting the place and removing all the steelwork and things of value.
My friend was there last week and said everthing was down except the red brick office block to the left of the road into the site and there was a pile of muck over the site. So I assume that the 2 drifts running under the entrance road have been covered.
Two of us have photoes mine show it partialy demolished with the high level conveyors coming down.

Yes, not many left. I did not add that the sale was about 10 years ago.
What ever Mr Scargill says this mine was connected to NortonThorpe Colliery,Clayton West Colliery, Park Mill Colliery, Springwood, Woolley Colliery, Bullcliffe Wood Colliery and possibly others.
I was speaking to an old miner who said he had walked from Park Gate to Woolley underground.
I think the nearest small mine now open is on Todmorden Moor

Hi
This is what I was told by the engineer on site. Could not get much info out of him. I was lucky to get what I got. He did say he was working for a firm where his boss came from Wales. He was looking after the owners interest. I had to keep outside the perimeter fence due to the demolition going on.

Work is going on in earnest to remove equipment from the emergency exit. They were working on Sunday and again tonight.
