Can't add to Simon's comment. Escept my smilies don't seem to be working.
The past is a foreign country: they do things differently there.

As it is now all in Gemcom can produce any view of the Coniston veins and workings or level plans, hoping to get the stopes in in 3D but that takes a little more time.

Are any of these software packages available at a low cost to users or do they have a high price tag.
I have drawn many plans using photoshop and more recently ACAD, but it would be nice to use something specific for the job??

Unfortunately not. Some of these packages are really only for industry users and can run to tens of thousands of dollars.
MapInfo with the Discover 3D add on is around US$ 2500 (I think) and does a similar job without having all the resource modelling attributes of the industry packages.

It was spun off from micromine - I was marketing director of micromine and hated it, so got together with a group of geos and developed interdex, which was small, windows based, and every geo could use it. Sold out in about 1999, which is what I now live on, and its now owned by surpac... Have you still got gemcom ? Could do with running some plans through it to get a 3-d of geology and mineworkings for a project we've got on... I can digitise most of the maps i think - need to do the surface geology to relate back to the u/g stuff.
