Has anyone any information of gypsum adits at Spernall, East of Studley near Reddich. I came across a mention of gypsum being mined in a Geological memoir of the Reddich area. I had a look and found what could be a run-in adit.

There appear to be a fair number of "Pits" marked on OS 1:25000 around
Spernall Park, perhaps the local library may hold early, larger scale maps.

After a lull in production, the mining of the gypsum resumed in the first half of the 20th century but it was short-lived. The site has left few signs but for those who know about 'the hill of chalk' it will be easy to discern where Spernall Park Hill has been scarred and where the gypsum was brought out of the wood. Old maps always call this area 'the plaster pits. The gypsum seam appears to be confined in our area to the parish of Spernall.

Hi Coggy.
A couple of years ago, when I was trying to find the old deep salt mine near Droitwich, I was told that there were a couple of fields nearby with blocks of gypsum around the edges. I've never found them, but I believe the old deep salt mine to be around SO933656.
Reports of the salt deposits in Droitwich als refer to layers of gypsum in the local rocks and it's not too far from Spernall. Where did you find the possible adit?

Where there's a mine or a hole in the ground.
That's where I'm heading for that's where I'm bound

The area I considered to have been a possible adit is where the wooded hillside of Spernall Park curves to the North, there is a 20 M deep cutting heading almost due East into the hillside. I tried to go into it but the sides were heavily vegetated and the floor was deep mud. I looked all around the area for any bits of gypsum or any rock, found nothing. I did see a couple of muntjack deer and a few pheasants.
