Hi Guy's we finally made it. On Sunday evening four of us went into Crops through the small crawl in and in less than an hour we emerged from Willow Close down the road a bit. we knew they joined up just couldn't figure out which way to go. Now we know...

There's all manor of stuff down there, wooden doors still hanging, what appears to be iron blast doors on the entrance of a side tunnel ( not sure what they are really for) there's even an old capped off well.

I'll try and upload the pics but the batch upload keeps crashing. Pics maybe a bit large or something. See what you think.

Hey well done guys. Willow close is my next mine to do. I've spent the last couple of months looking round Church. I was intending one or two more visits to church before the game season sets in and then move on to Willow. Well done for finding the link and look forward to seeing the pics 🙂

Hi Rusty,

After Pm with Hal Chase i'm not sure that we actually got to Crops Acre. Everyone knows the Willow close adit in the wall, well we walked up another 1/4 mile or so and went in a very small slither opening and eventually came out of the willow close adit. We thought we were going into Crops but Hal has said that we were still in willow. Found loads of good stuf though. Take a look at the Crops Acre album.

Sorry Hal, what do you mean by sump? hole in the ground filled with water or capped off well type sump?
😞

Hi Phooka,
Nice pics, can't wait to get in there and have a look around. Did you have any air problems in Willow?. I've heard sometimes the oxygen level can be low. Did you see any insitu rails?.

Hi Rusty,

No didn't have any probs with bad air at all. We saw a couple of rails laying around but none that were insitu. The best one i've seen for that is down Woodfield.

We're going to try and get down again either tomorrow or Monday. Got the bug at the moment. Just wish I could find a decent gas meter then i'd feel a lot more comfortable. 😉

I've yet to locate the Slipton mines as I've only just got into all this. Spent all my time at Church Mine. I might go for a look today as I know roughly where they are from a survey. If you fancy meeting up for a foray let me know. I have recently bought a monitor which does make you feel a little safer. I had heard of bad air in one of the slipton mines which is what prompted me to get a monitor. I might be getting on a bit but I aint ready to meet my maker just yet 😉

You started in Crops Acre but turned left immediately into Willow Close. All your Crops Acre pictures are in fact Willow Close 😉

Just been looking at these mines, no map reference for either, or is it a secret?
😉

Hi Hal_Chase,
That's good news to me as I would assume that if the two mines are linked there is at least some air flow. I hope to explore these mines in the very near future and although I take a monitor I like the idea of more than one opening. I understand the air quality can be iffy at times in these mines?. I'm still busy with Church mine at the moment but intend to try Willow/crops over winter. 🙂

02 can certainly be rough depending on environmental conditions plus bits of H2S.

Church will take you a while, probably only 10% of it gets visited ever.

I should imagine its intentional to keep the moron quotient low....doesn't seem to be very effective though

Been in Church mine again and started to map it. (well it saves going over the same area continually) 😉 . Has anyone else come across the well in one of the tunnels?. It looks to me like it was backfilled at one time and it has been re-excavated.
