2 very old 'slanting shaft' ex ploughing engines ended their days in the Coleford Iron Mine, Forest of Dean, as winding engines. William Priestley of Gloucester supplied them.
Mr Arthur Trotter made a splendid model of one, which is in the Gloucester Museum.
Has anyone any more information please?
Thanks in hope!

Thanks very much for such a prompt reply!
This whole enquiry started after a posting on Traction Talk about a year ago.
I was Chairman of the Steam Plough Club for 28 years and am still a member!
But neither of these comments is meant to denigrate your efforts in replying. If only the world had more people willing to share their information, life would be a lot easier.
Thanks again,

Hi,
How did the engine come into the hands of William Priestley of Gloucester?
I can trace some of the five engines that went to the Gloucestershire Steam Plough Company who went 'bust' in 1863.
Haining & Tyler, who are both dead now unfortunately, say 2 engines were in the Coleford Iron Mine in the 1880's. One ended up in the Speedwell Mine.
Any info gratefully received!
Thanks again,

As you mention mining use perhaps the Deputy Gaveller FOD may know someone who could assist with records?
