Ignore what the BBC reporter has spouted about them being 2000 years old, just because there's a Roman fort and road nearby does not prove that excavation was started in Roman times, any more than the fact that picks were being used to extract the ore.

Now we just need a gibbet at the top of the opencuts for dealing with fly-tippers......

was up there yesterday the works well on the way nice new fencing and they have pulled a burnt out transit out of the top end opencut near the road.

Good, that Tranny Van has been there sometime. Are they stopping 4X4s completely from going down?

Not that i know of only making it so that you basically have to stick to the track.

As Waggy says, the main works are on the track in the bottom of the dale to prevent bikes and vehicles going up onto the spoilheaps of the opencuts - there are no changes to the status of the road, which I think is a BOAT. I can't remember whether there were any plans for works to prevent vehicles getting shoved into the opencuts from the top.
