This steelwork looks like Hollybank type roof supports, different from usual systems using fishplates by having a single bolt joint arrangement. Often used in coal mining, especially in retreat systems & advance headings, where removal of the support leg was "easier", detail shown here:

I took this photo way back in 1985, the steelwork certainly looked interesting to me way back then as it was totally different to what we would usually find in the Derbyshire spar mines, normally they used ring arching with fishplate joints at the top.

This was an old section of the mine that was not being worked when we explored it. I have since been back and this steelwork is still in excellent condition, though the wooden slats to the sides has rotted badly now.
