Thought I'd introduce myself here as I've lurked on this site for at least a good 2 months. Yesterday I did Cae coch with Down and beyond and three other great chaps. having previously done smaller mines (Crisp Delph, Ystrad einion) its probably quite an easy mine for most of you but it was quite a step up from the two mentioned above. Im still fairly new to underground stuff, although I've been in the above-ground exploring scene for what must be 3 years.

Looking forward to speaking more on here in the future.

I'll also add a few of my pictures in the mine folders later today!:)

Welcome.

Glad you enjoyed Cae Coch.
A little bird tells me that you all bottled out of the drainage level...?
Get yourselves some wetsuits and go for it!

Yup sadly not all the group was prepared when we got to the hand line such a shame ! Them lower levels look amazing will definitely be leading a trip their to the deepest section ! And give a full report on it mate

Any wet suit recommendations;)

I was more disappointed that we couldn't go any further than we could in Hafna!

I wouldn't go anywhere near any liquid in Cae Coch with anything less than a midget submarine

3mm wetsuite , neoprene socks and holes drilled in the wellie,s perfect for Hafna and other places like it . Waders are no good buddy for this game have a look at our Hafna video on YT and you will see just how deep it gets

The last trip required neither anti low pH measures or a wetsuit. It was above welly depth in places and theres minimal to nil air circulation down there. So bad air generally and an unhealthy level of SO2 could be encountered. Last count, we’re all still here though:)

How do the bats survive?
Last time I went there was some in there.
By way, anti PH wetsuit = chest waders
;D

I can’t recall seeing any bats near to or within the lowest- blocked drainage adit... though we did see a mouse close to the handline anchor! I remember seeing the bat cuties about the more open- upper/NE side though Roy.

That’s strange enless , we done the hand line turned right was streight above wellies to around knees so we pulled out went left carried on this for a very good while and could feel the air going clean and blowing towards us but the water got way to deep for to long filling are wellies constantly we decided to give up and return with waders for this section get changed into them after the hand line down is are new plan . The hand line is interesting is more of a stair case after the first 10ft was it like this for you ?

Apart from the dry and dusty Surrey mines I can't recall any trips where my wellies didn't fill up with some sort of liquid.

I'm either doing it wrong/too careless/too excitable ;(

Disclaimer: Mine exploring can be quite dangerous, but then again it can be alright, it all depends on the weather. Please read the proper disclaimer.
