Just to say a little hello to the community. New to this and mine exploration. Massive outdoor enthusiast and have stumbled across many an old ruin or abandoned mine in my travels. I stay in Scotlands cental belt and just wanted to see if I could find more or any information about mines iv stumbled upon, which lead me to here!:thumbsup:

What mines have you been to? I spent nearly a year up in Edinburgh and visited quite a few mines around there.

Iv been to a few mines over the years, abandoned ones mainly. Cononish mine a few years back just before Scotgold started to haul out all the old equipment. Tyndrum lead mine years ago also. I live in the Trossachs and there is plenty of history in the area. Not sure of everything the area has to offer but that's why I'm here. If anybody has any suggestions or lives locally that knows of interesting areas or would like to show a novice the ropes as it were, let me know

Tomnadashan is worth a visit, especially if you are a Monty Python fan. Though be very careful as there are false floors and vertical shafts from the surface down to the workings. That is in your neck of the woods.

Hi Dan,
Great to have you on site, hope you will enjoy it.
I know that Tomnadashan was mentioned, as I have visited it a few times, I would just add please check with the farmer first.
I do not think that he would object, but at this time of year he will be preparing for lambing, and it is in any case just polite to ask.

As you stand at the open entrance of the mine looking in, on the lower left corner it drops down a level and there is a small passage in the corner. In that section, there just before the small passage, is a false floor. I walked across it to look into the small passage and when I turned around I noticed that I could see under the floor! It looks like there used to be a passage under there too but for some reason they built a platform and extended the floor over it, so the fall is not deadly from memory.

Back at the main entrance, now looking into the right corner. There are a few partially flooded passages there that looked safe enough. I just never got around to exploring them as I lacked welly boots at the time. If you are tall, it will be an unpleasant explore as the passages stoop quite low.

Hi. I have put a document on the site, 'A Gazetteer to the Metal Mines of Scotland' it is probable not as complete or as accurate as it could be but should give you some idea of what where. To find it go into, 'Information & Resources', 'Mining Document library', 'General Interest' Its a far way down dated 02/09/2014.

What a shame such, clearly, well-meaning(?) types don't offer useful services for the less academic, such as weeding, pot watering and potting-on as I've found it's been rather a warm day. Think I'll just sit under the awning and watch the sun go down, with some flavoured lemonade:angel:

Hi Jim,
You are lucky you can see the sun!
In our part of Scotland it seems to have disappeared under a pile of cloud!
Not dissimilar to the Harr and Fret that you get inshore off the North Sea.
Still hopefully at some time over the next few days, that yellow orb may just brake through the gloom, and cheer us all up.
