Hi I'm Mark. My old man "Grandad" Worked at Crown Farm and Clipstone in Mansfield Nottinghamshire as a miner (John Foster from Forest Town) Unfortunatly he passed away last year. But growing up living next door and taking a massive interest in mining and his job ever since being around 8 year old... I remember walking to Clipo from Forest Town to collect his wages as he was baby sitting me at the time.. While in the office area. He was asked to sort something in one of the workshops..... hi friend Patch took me to the canteen for what I remember to be a fish and peas... lol the things ya remember..... upon my old man returning covered in grease n coal dust. He took me to the baths which were on the opposite side of the road accessible by a tunnel under the road.. were he got me to get in the baths also.. as a kid getting dunked and thrown into a big "swimming pool" by miners and me grandad has stuck with me to this day...... Not the sort of thing you'd get away with now days of course....
Anyway Im just starting to get into collecting mining memorabilia from the 70s 80s..... and hearing stories and how things were in mines....... cheers
Mark
