I bought one - see the Bincliffe mine thread.

There's some information in there on some mines I wasn't previously aware of and ideas for future trips and therefore I am satisfied with my purchase.

It is a rather short book though more of a pamphlet really and some might think the price is a little high for 36 pages.

One minor Gripe - What is titled as a gazeteer of accesible mines contains quite a number of mines which are described as ..... inaccessible

It's good stuff though and I'll more than likely buy the Matlock one when it comes out.

Hi Upper Bincliffe is still accesible, just a tight squeeze to access the shaft!

The first volume does contain about a dozen innacessible mines, along with the sixty or so others that are listed as accessible. These are mainly included as their was little reference to them in previous literature, and also because i live locally and wanted to be comprehensive in my coverage.

The next three volumes also contain a few mines which are officially innacessible, but if you read under the lines they are in there for a reason.

The books are all privatley published, and with the full colour plates and card cover etc. they were quite an expensive job. In fact i dont even make £1 on each sale! I wrote the books for the love of it and because when i started exploring their was no easily accessible guide such as these available.

Well done that man!!! Wish I'd had such a set of guides when I started .... this is a long overdue publication in my mind. Thats the trouble with printing it yourself.... its expensive.. I do similar size auction catalogues and know they work out at about £4 a throw!!!
Such guides are a small price when you divide the cost by how many mines you actually can then find...

There was a guide book to the area by Trevor Ford - Caves of the Peak District which did include Mines. I have ordered some off Byron for stock

Publishing is very expensive if you do a small run - hence why Clubs often produce these sort of guides but does mean the author loses control and makes it difficult to update

Caves of the Peak is an excellent guide - though sadly out of print. However it does include very few mines within it, compared to those which are actually accessible. In the four volumes i have written, no more than 20% are mines which can also be found in Caves of the Peak. Understandably i guess as it is mainly a caving guide.

Disclaimer: Mine exploring can be quite dangerous, but then again it can be alright, it all depends on the weather. Please read the proper disclaimer.
