Walking along the A6 today near to Haddon Hall in Derbyshire and on the opposite side on the road the fields look very much like some mining has been done in the past, also a stone structure right at the side of the road that may have been a Adit ?? :confused:

It is a long time since I did much mining in the Peak District, so I might not be correct.
Basically Long Rake, runs from the Alport/ Youlgrave area towards the A6.
In the late 50's early 60's an opencast mining operation took place to mine fluorspar. It was called the Raper mine, I assume that it was backfilled and these are the remains you can see.

Raper Mine was actually much further west towards the Lathkill, round about SK217654. I don't think that Long Rake extended as far as the A6 due to the geology. I would guess that the features on the west side of the A6 near Haddon Hall have a non-mining origin.

Long Rake / Ladies vein runs towards the junction of River Lathkill and River Wye, where Black Sough (to Ladies Vein) is shown to be a channel leading to the Wye.
The Long Rake system I believe is the northern extent of this part of the mineral field, thus nothing north of it until westish of Bakewell.

Are the features above Haddon Hall car park?
I can't remember seeing anything along the A6 looking like an adit - although I would usually be driving.

I was up at Raper Mine yesterday, the quarry part has been filled in and landscaped, not much visible but the farm buildings may be the mine buildings.

I went in a mine once.... it was dark and scary..... full of weirdos

The undulations in the ground are definitely not normal, as for the Adit if you are driving you wont see anything, that is why we walked. it is about 150m past the haddon Hall car park going towards Bakewell

Cannot see anything on 'Old Maps' except an old 950 metre rail tunnel.

Yep opposite the hall on the same side as the tourist car park right at the side of the A6 towards Bakewell the second field along, say 150M along

Do the old village earthworks clarify anything as regards disturbed ground? Also mention of a shaft.

Great that is the spot. as you can see the ground has been disturbed quite a lot, I like the village theory.

Where the undulations are on the aerial photo you can clearly see a few trees right at the side of the road this is the bit that MAY be an old adit ?

it looks very dramatic in real life that is what attracted my attention to it when driving to Holme bank.
