I live in Blackwell, Derbyshire once home to the "A" & "B" Winning mines.
I am a keen Model Railway modeller and for my next project I want to build a layout incorporating both mines and the railway that served them.
So, if anyone can help with any photographs or any information i would really appreciate it. Best wishes to all and one final question... if Spring has now arrived, why is there 12" of snow outside?

Hello & welcome to the site.
They were quite a few more pits in Blackwell other than A & B Winnings. The links to both are:

http://www.aditnow.co.uk/mines/Blackwell-A-Winning-Coal-Mine/
http://www.aditnow.co.uk/mines/Blackwell-B-Winning-Coal-Mine/

If you look on the right hand side in each mine entry you can see other mines in the local area.
There are some old and modern photos of both colliery sites, although ofcourse very little is seen of B Winning, whereas some of A Winning still stands in use.

I will have a dig around to see if I can find anything else to help out.

Not sure about why we got the snow, but there is more to come

I went in a mine once.... it was dark and scary..... full of weirdos

When do I get my soapbox, I need to rant on about some b***cks

Many thanks for the information which is most appreciated. The main reason that I am interested in A&B, but especially A, is that I want to replicate the large and extensive railway track that existed. Also, as I scratch build my models I need photographs/ drawings or any details that I can get to build the buildings that were on site for reference purposes I know that it is a big ask, but I have always been an optimist!

Now this takes me back 50 years, faded memories but if I recall the line left the Alfreton Chesterfield mainline just behind the loco sheds at Westhouses, followed the valley up to Blackwell pit (A Winning ?), then continued to Hilcote (B Winning) and on to connect with the goods line that went under the Mansfield Road just past Berristow Place, before the Huthwaite Common turn off, this line also served Wincobank and the Pinxton pits to the south and Huthwaite, Old Hucknall, and the Tibshelf pits to the north.

Always remember, nature is in charge, get it wrong and it is you who suffers!.

I have MR track and signalling diagrams plus some old pics. Send me a PJM with your details. My family were all railway at WH or miners at A Winning 🙂
