I'll contact them for permission and advise before any visit. I'm walking in that area next week so may detour and have a look at the work being done.

Hi ttxela, we had a brief meet in wapping a while back......... wouldn't mind having a look in that area again myself at some point if you fancy it, had an explore there over 15 years ago and always meant to go back.

I've only been in Wapping once so you must be either the chap that was in our party that wasn't Brains, or the chap that passed us with 2 young lads...... 🙂

Hello, I have just been reading posts about the Bincliffe Mines and yours in particular. I am the A. King that surveyed this mine all those years ago. I am in my 70s now and living in Australia. I can still remember exploring and surveying this mine with Ian Bell and David Pountney when I was a member of the Phoenix Old Mine and Caving Club. If I remember correctly there were two shafts, one blocked and one open. The open shaft was quite sound with easy access in those days, though that may have changed. It was a very interesting mine and quite surprising with cave pearls in a couple of places so part of the mine may have been natural cave. If you want to publish the survey I wouldn’t have no objection and if you need any more information just let me know either on this site or my email address, [email protected]
Regards and best wishes, Anthony King.

Crikey Tony, thats amazing. Goes to show the usefulness of this site!

Those posts are some 9 years or so old but I may well still have the survey. I'll see if I can dig it out when I get home later

Disclaimer: Mine exploring can be quite dangerous, but then again it can be alright, it all depends on the weather. Please read the proper disclaimer.
