Perhaps the most obvious industrial feature when driving along the A55 is the Penmaenmawr granite quarry which has several inclines clearly visible from the road.

Four years ago Hanson who operate the quarry lost the lucrative contract with Network Rail under which they had been supplying ballast for the national railway system, and it's been rather quiet up there since.
