Hi,
Just to introduce myself (as I've only just registered) and let folk here know that I'm just starting out on an oral history project to record the stories and memories of those involved in the industry, as well as researching into the history of fluorspar mining in the North Pennines generally, on behalf of the the North Pennines AONB Partnership and the Friends of Killhope.
Will try and keep folk here posted with developments and, in the meantime, put out a request to all you good people out there for any leads that might direct me to any known sources of information, photographs, etc (public or private) that might be of interest - or that I should know about!
Look forward to hearing from you.
Thanks.

Mentioned Redburn Mine the other day to Kevin Williams, now mine manager at South Crofty. Apparently he worked at Redburn in the 1970's, at about that time there was a big collapse to surface.

I worked on the geology of B.S.C. mines for my Ph.D. and have a few photos. I can also put you in touch with the B.S.C. mine geologist (Dave Greenwood) if you wish

So that's not good news for anyone living near Crofty.

Disclaimer: Mine exploring can be quite dangerous, but then again it can be alright, it all depends on the weather. Please read the proper disclaimer.
