To put things into perspective, the whole of the Tywarnhayle site including several complete buildings and one of the most memorable engine houses (of two) was for sale a few years ago for less than £1/2m. Massive massive site.

£750k. I think they have been smoking crack.

I wonder how many conversions there are in Cornwall? I know of one near Goldsithney, the one near St.Agnes (training company), the one mentioned here and the one in South east Cornwall featured in Grand designs. Any others?

It isn't New Sump, It's New East and was converted to an electrical sub-station.

Was there last week and I didn't notice (new sump engine house is the the old substation one? What I am saying! That and Harriet are the only surviving Main dolcoath engine houses with a bob wall!)....Much alteration or just one or two stones?

re Cotehele Consols, currently trying to ascertain whether the Landmark Trust engine house was ever anything to do with Cotehele Consols, I currently suspect not. The Cotehele Co. was very short lived but happened to coincide with the survey date for the 1st edn OS 1:2500 (c. 1882). The name was kept up on later edn OS maps which is why the name has become better known than it perhaps deserves. The engine house was certainly not built at that date. It is shown in detail with the adjoining dressing floors on plans of Danescombe (John Taylor & Sons) from the 1890's. All the Co's working in the area were very little reported in MJ & other sources available locally, but the Cotehel & a later Danescombe Co. were Stock Exchange listed so there may be stuff at the Guildhall library, is there anyone in London who would be able to check that out?

Disclaimer: Mine exploring can be quite dangerous, but then again it can be alright, it all depends on the weather. Please read the proper disclaimer.
