Hi ladies and gents,

I'm new around here and have just bought a great house in Nantlle and am facinated by the quarries and the mines around there. I hope to get my nose a bit further underground over the next few months ...

Regards,
Keith

Keep an eye for events here, occasionally there are beginners trips which is how I got into it or ask to tag along, people often vary a trip to suit the abilities of those attending. You quickly learn what kit you need depending on how advanced you want to go, SRT rock drills etc, or just places you can walk/scramble to.
Light thinks it travels faster than anything but it is wrong. No matter how fast light travels, it finds the darkness has always got there first, and is waiting for it.

Corris Mine Explorers would be a good taster.

Yep, I'd second that, Marks trip was brilliant, good introduction to slate mines and very informative. I'd highly recomend it (and this coming from someone who normally goes exploring for free 😉 ).

Keep out of metal mines for now until you've had a guided trip though as these are somewhat different to slate mines with their own set of nasties. Look up stopes and false floors.
