Hi Andy
I live just minutes from Slipton. I have only just started to find out about the old mines around here. I'm interested in recent history and would love the chance to go down one of the mines. I have looked at one or two other sites and found that quite a few people go exploring the mines in this area. I must confess to being apprehensive at the thought of going in, but curiosity would overcome that. If you fancied showing a coward around I'd be very interested.

hiya
my inlaws live in islip so we go down the local mines when we visit, they are well worth a visit.
i know of 3 mines in the area - willow close/crops acre, church mine and woodfield.
willow close is well known for bad air but not heard of any problems with the other two. Been down woodfield a few times and also down willow close once but not been down church mine yet.
you are more than welcome to join me next time i am down that way.

Hi Andy

I have no intention of going down a mine but I am interested in the subject of mines, quarries and railways in the Islip and Thrapston area. The map on this web site might be of use to you.
