I notice the site is seriously deficient in this aspect!
I have some pictures not only of the old quarries but, thanks to my geology group, some of the new Portland Stone mines.
I can upload these but how?

May i also take this opportunity to thank those who have photographed the Dinorwic Quarries. They are proving to be tremendously helpful to me for the construction of a model based on the quarry. It will feature several locos and types of wagons and a variety of machinery in 16mm:1ft scale.
This being my prime reason to join.

Welcome to AN Bob - if the quarries you've got pictures of are already in the site database, then go to the page for it through mines, quarries and sites. Click on either archive album (for old/historic photos) or user album (for recent photos), then click on the link at the top of the page to go to the upload page, put in the file location and some details then upload.

If the quarry you've got photos for definitely isn't in the database (it's worth checking by grid reference as well as name) then you can add it through the tools section of the mines quarries and sites dropdown - once it's been created, add as above!

Thanks for that. I only found the historic BGS pictures, all these are coastal.
Mine ere four years old, so new. They illustrate to new "mining" of the stone on the Island plus some of the modern quarry-work.
I'll attempt an upload shortly.

I am sure some of us would like to see results of your 16mm scale modelling of Dinorwic. Maybe you could add them to your personal album?

Hi Bob

The following sites are already in the database:

Seacombe Quarry http://www.aditnow.co.uk/album/Seacombe-Limestone-Quarry-Archive-Album/

Winspit Quarry http://www.aditnow.co.uk/album/Winspit-Limestone-Quarry-Archive-Album/

Dancing Ledge Quarry http://www.aditnow.co.uk/album/Dansing-Ledge-Limestone-Quarry-Archive-Album/

Tilly Whim Quarry http://www.aditnow.co.uk/album/Tilly-Whim-Limestone-Quarry-Archive-Album/

All the above are Purbeck coastal quarries in the Portland Stone and have archive BGS images in their galleries.

Weston Quarry on the island has also been added to the database but has no photos as yet: http://www.aditnow.co.uk/mines/Weston-Limestone-Quarry/

If you look at the "mines nearby" list under Weston, you will see a number of other island quarries that are in the database.

My pictures are of the latest developmements in mining and quarrying in Albion Quarry.

The 16mm Dinorwic model only consists of components, locos, wagons and rail waiting to be laid at the moment. The layout is still in a a state of flux. I keep finding out more!

I've found the drop down but cannot see how to upload photos, only details of the quarry.

Click on the quarry's "User Album" and there will be a link on the Album page for uploading photos.

I don't know if everybody has the option to upload photos - that's what I see anyway.

Unless they are "archive" photos, in which case click on the quarry's archive album then click on Upload photo.

The general rule is less than 20 years old goes in user album older than 20 years goes in archive album. Except, if there has been a significant recent change in which case photos taken just before that change go in archive album too.

I have filled my personal Album with a number of photos taken on Portland, Albion Quarry Weston site.
They are relatively recent and were taken on an authorised trip for a local Geological Society guided by the quarry manager.

Welcome to the site Montacute

Thank you for the photo uploads. However people will find them nigh-on impossible to find in your personal album.

If you're stuggling to add the mine/quarry to the database then have a look at this guidance page. Explains how to search for a mine to check it's not already in the database and once you're happy just click the link to add it.

I've added the quarry/mine but I cannot find a way to add my personal album to the reference so when searching for Albion Quarry my pictures can be seen.

It doesn't work that way ;)

It goes:

Mine > Album > Photo

But as you say if you specifically search photos for 'albion quarry' they are found.

For future reference here's the user album link under Albion Quarry http://www.aditnow.co.uk/album/Albion-Quarry-Isle-of-Portland-Limestone-Mine-User-Album/

Hope that helps :flowers:

Excellent. However the grid reference is wrong!

When the layout is finished and being taken to exhibitions, do let us know so thaty we might spread the word and try to get along to see it in operation.

Grid reference, that's the trouble with doing things in haste!
I'll correct it.

Don't hold your breath!
The layout still only consists of a number of items of rolling stock and a hundredweight of research!
Perhaps by the end of the year construction will have started.
Modelling slate so that it weighs next to nothing is one challenge!

Are you a member of the Yahoo Slate Quarry Models egroup? There was some discussion there on this topic a while ago.
