Hey all! Im Matty, or Gaz, or quite often refered to as " Oi You", my apologies, I diddnt say hi in all the excitement of looking at photos and all.

Ive been in and out of mines for just 10 years or so, mainly in Germany, and am currently in South Wales, near Swansea for a little while.

Coal Mines seem to flick my switch, sadly, the access side is tough, and the safety side even tougher, and no matter how much posh shiny stuff I carry on my belt, Im begining to feel sense kick in, and either my MSA air sensor is on the blink, or it just bleeps too often these days.

Im totally up for some company some time, things are quite lonely over in this country on this lengthy visit the family vacation, so, should you also be a saddo, send me a message, perhaps we can introduce each other to a neu systeme.

Okay, enough waffle, more Photographs to be looking at!

Ciao!

Hi Matty, If you look on the Welsh Coalminers Website you will find many from South Wales that are active around that area.

Good morning "Oi You" and welcome to AN!

There are a few people who are active in South Wales, whilst coal mines seems to be the most common down there you correctly identify the big problem, namely safety.

I've always fancied a look at Dinas silica mine - http://www.aditnow.co.uk/mines/Upper-Silica-Silica-Mine/  - but it's a bit of a trek from here up north.

Boredda Vanoord,

Yes, Dinas is a nice easy trek, one of my favourite haunts, I learnt up in Dinas Silica, so know it reasonably well, BUT... only just found out about 3 mines.... there are the two large ones either side of the river, seperated by the bridge, but apparently there is another close by.... Ill be dam*d if I know where it is!

If anyone could help me find it, Ill love them forever! (Man Love that is)

Id say Dinas is worth the trek from North Wales, walking to it from the CP via the waterfall is best IMHO, quite beautiful, my favourite spot in S Wales, The North can knock spots off it though! If theres nothing else on the cards, and you want to come down, give us a shout. Most weekends I have nothing to do.... well... Most days I have nothing to do lol

I might point Lawsonium in your direction in case he gets bored of a weekend!

Dinas would be a good place to have a look at, just need to find the time - very much lacking at the moment and we may have a couple of projects up here that will take a bit of time 😉

Vanoord,

I envy your busy'ness! Ive discovered a whole new level of boredom which Im trapped in for the next few months... the family describe it as a good break, but UK tv is sucking the hapiness out of me!

Ah, it gives me the chance to travel around I guess!
