I wouldn't fancy using it underground in darkness.... it is really rather heavy

I am beginning to re- assess my opinion as to the age of this drill. My initial thought was that it was of 1890s vintage. However it transpires that Stephens' dust allayer was patented in 1904. My drill is designed to take a dust allayer so........

I think a trip to the Cornish studies library is on the cards.

Climax project part 4

7.4.2017.

Good session this evening J25GTi and I got the screw feed mechanism back together and working. It runs incredibly smoothly.

We fitted a new claw type air connector.

We also got various bits and bobs into top coat.

Another couple of evenings work should see it all back together.

Photos to follow.

I enjoy reading how you are getting on and look forward to more pics!

I'm no expert but I did think that 1890's seemed a little early, none the less it'll be interesting to read what you manage to find out.

Keep up the good work!

J25GTi's photos from last nights session. The piston assembly is shown dangling from the bench in the middle of the last photo having received its first topcoat.

I lifted it down off the bench on my own before we fitted the advancing screw etc. It took two of us to lift it back up without it on....

Once we fit the piston, ratchet / rifle bar and associated castings it's going to be touch and go as to whether two people will be able lift it. Proper engineering

The piston is heavy enough to warrant 2 men to move it safely....

Yep, about as much as you hate your asbo tag buzzing every time you pull the twin-and-earth out of the hospital switch room

Screaming to get out? Like that passenger that got in your car thinking it was a taxi?

Anyway, stop dragging the thread off topic. Who's WiFi you freeloading from your caravan?

As this bit of kit is seriously heavy how would it have been erected 'back in the in the day'?

Was the air leg some sort of tripod arrangement?
