WE Teale was the man behind the early Protector lamps, and Teale was its manager for the first 16 years. He left the company in 1889 after a legal battle over patent infringement issues, then started producing lamps under his own name. WE Teale died in 1912, but his company continued on. The Mark VII HCP lamp was introduced in 1938. The company continued until 1949, and is believed to have been taken over in 1950 by Protector. This a brief summary of information in a booklet from The Miners Lamp Collectors Society produced in 1910.
