Have to say, I bought a 5W Cree LED 3xC cell torch from Aldi a couple of years ago for back-up / light painting. It focuses from narrow to wide beam. It's got a heavy waterproof stainless steel case and has done stirling service with no probs to date. Think it cost me £18. Note that Lidl have just had a similar torch in but with a 10W Cree for £12.99. The only Achilles heel appears to be the security cord - very thin nylon, mine snapped early on but I had some thin braided stainless wire so replaced it with this attached to a polypropylene cord lanyard clipped to my belt. No disrespect to you Roy but you can find some good lights out there for back-up or light painting. Yours for main lighting of course...

Aldi have just been selling a nice zoomable 12w Cree reduced from £19.99 to £9.99, my mate bought one and when it went through the till it was actually £6.99, it came with a panasonic 3500mah 18650 battery and is actually really well made, they have some superb bargains at times and all minus the spurious claims.

I bought it a year or so ago now so too late to be sent back, which is a pain, but as said its my own fault and definitely not a detriment to you Roy as you offered to resolve it at the time!

I dont give a monkeys, send it in and I will fix it. Ask anyone about me and they will put you right.

You only pay if its you broke it, or its wear and tear, I am not worried about a few weeks over warranty period.

B&Q currently doing clearout of 10W LED freestanding worklight. Recharchable with both mains and car charging kits. Was £20 is now £10. Only used in house so far but nearly blinded myself. Def worth a look but make sure the price comes up correctly at checkout. Has a IP65 rating. Have no complaints about it yet.

Torches I am currently using:

Had an Ulrafire single XPG running off 1 X 18650 send to me as a freebie. Found it was very good and waterproof so sent for a few. Big annoyance was the silly flashes, so fitted my own driver, Max, Mid, Low in that order.

Other one is a bigger 4 X 18650 to 6 XMLs bough £20 of eBay. Wrote about it before.
Full power was direct drive switched by a MOSFET and worked out to about 7.5 amps between the 6 parallel LEDs off fresh cells. So much for its 'claims'.

Let water in at the switch so fitted a waterproof switch, Next tried 4 ultra high discharge cells and fried the LEDs plus the driver. Not to be thwarted I fitted new LEDs and a better driver board from Fasttech, now its isn't a bad torch.

I love messing.

The keyring lights the Chinese give away with orders are useful as you always have your keys so you always have a light, but yet again they have to score own goals by making some of them with coloured LEDs.

"2300 lumens" and "hot enough to start a fire and cook an egg"

If I have to guess, it's a single massively overdriven cree XML

"lasts 30 minutes on full power" I guess that is how long it takes for the LED to burn out.

Yes, more bloody sales rubbish.

I am producing lamps of 6000 lumens and they hardly set things on fire, although in fairness holding your hand in front of it is hardly comfortable, just tried it.

It was burning my hand after about 20 seconds and left a weird after feeling, I still have this as I am typing.

Hand still don't feel quite right, but could be from fighting yesterday, I would advise people who have my high power jobbies not to try doing this.
