(And SimonRl will be glad of this, coz I finally figured out its the batteries not his lamp that's gone south!)

Moons ago I bought a fenix P3d - a fine lamp for aven spotting, nae one of the best lamps for photogagaye, as ever built - however there was a flaw in this, the everlasting dumpy ICR 123 3.6v rechargeable battery! its cycle life is shite!

Is there a one stop larger battery (18650 is summat I've heard about) that is readily available to replace 2x of these things? please no long winded techno answers, just simple places to shop ta!

Assuming the torch circuitry can deal with the lower voltage (It should say something like "input voltage 3.2v-7.4v"), then yes, a 18650 will generaly replace 2x 18350's. The Manual should tell you, I'm sure you can download most manuals from the Fenix website if you have lost track of the dead tree edition.

EDIT:-

It appears that it won't physically fit.

Yeah I got a bit peeved at that. I settled in the end for rechargeable CR123s which are brilliant. In fact they have out-lived the torch.....

Look at Efest, AW or Torchy. Designed for high drain (e-cig's), so they should handle a torch easily. If you go the ebay route, the *only* shops I trust are Torchy (http://www.ebay.co.uk/dsc/big_f_d_d/m.html?_ipg=50&_sop=16&_rdc=1) or Ecolux (http://www.ebay.co.uk/usr/ecoluxshop?_trksid=p2047675.l2559).
