Costco are currently selling a 3 pack of Cree XPE torches for Β£16.79 in vat. They seem quite robust, brighter than a Tesco 3W on low beam & a fast strobe that you can disco dance to!
They take 3*AAA but there is info on the net for bigger single cells!

Can anyone get these or do you have to have a costco membership card or something?

You need to be a member to buy at Costco.

Got one of these and for the money they seem a good torch. Has had a few underground trips since the lovely TK11 got eaten.

To look at reviews search for TechLite Lumen Master.

Not tested seriously underwater. But for the money I wouldn't expect it.

Saving for another TK11.

TK15 is the newer version, quite a bit of kit! Noticeably brighter and the side-mounted mode switch is good improvement.

Not sure if I've got any left, but I'll put an order in sometime soon: if you want a price for one, ask!

What was the one you had a few months back that was exceedingly bright? Might be coming to you for one of those in the next month or two if you have any in stock?

The TK35?

Works off 2 18650s, something like 800+ (real) lumens.

I'll see if the importer has any in stock, might get a few in for Christmas.

Interesting that Fenrix can only get 800 lumen from two cells.
When Ultrafire can claim 1200 lumen fron one cell

The crucial word is 'claim'! πŸ˜‰

Fenix rates their lights in 'out the front' (OTF) lumens, ie they are measured with a lumenometer (or whatever it's called).

They originally used calculated lumens and when they switched over to measured lumens, the rated outputs went down by about 20%.

Thus, 820 OTF lumens equates to perhaps 1,000 calculated lumens.

As far as Ultrafire's lumen claims, I'd be interested to see someone measure the *actual* power sent to the emitter rather than something calculated or guessed ;)

I suspect, incidentally, that the two cells vs one cell is done for endurance rather than output.

You use an Integrating Sphere, sometimes called a Globe. Lumens is a measurement of the total level of illumination that a light source produces. In the case of an LED, this is generally spread over 120+ degrees. The integrating Sphere "collects" all the available light, and directs it to a single point at which it can be measured.

Lux is the measurement of the amount of light at a single spot. This figure is usually fudged by Manufacturers with lesser scruples by measuring it at a very short distance, as the Light output falls with an increase in distance to the point measured.

OTF lumens are measured in a very similar way to Lux, rather then using an Integrated Sphere.

With regards two cells vs one, the XM-L T6 has it's maximum output at (Off the top of my head), at 3.35v. Given that you can discharge a Li-Ion/LiPo battery to 3.2v quite happily (with 2.5v being the bare minimum before it refuses to charge again), then 2 cells will increase the time you can run at the maximum rated output before falling voltage will drop the output.

The TK35 is a seriously great torch. Quite a few have witnessed my one underground and been very impressed. For anyone worried about the annoying strobe mode, I can't even remember how to get into it! It always just switches between the sensible solid light modes.

Disclaimer: Mine exploring can be quite dangerous, but then again it can be alright, it all depends on the weather. Please read the proper disclaimer.
