The much loved by explorers Tesco 3w Cree torch has made its way on to ebay.

There are a few left and at under a tenner i thought some of you may be interested

I've been using one for good while (waterproofed a little!) brilliant! Pun intended.
its taken a good dunk or two in t' crabwalk stream and a few others &carried on.
i have a spare so advise anyone without one to grab one.

Old technology, sorry.

They were a bit dim in their day, but the stuff that's coming onto the market now is a massive leap forwards, probably the fastest rate of improvement in lumen output in the last 2-3 years.

Handy for the kitchen drawer, but the game has moved on a long, long way.

Agreed its old technology, but at under a tenner its a reasonable back up light.

Light technology is moving fast, its funny to put a slim led torch up against an old torch with a normal bulb, monster battery and see the difference!

What would you recomend then Mr V. I may a few bob to invest on a new torch, was looking at a fenix TK15 R5 anything else worth considering (needs to run off 18650 cells though) 😉

The TK15 is a very nice bit of kit, I've got one, just need the time to compare it to the TK11.

Initial impressions seem to be that it's got about the same sort of throw and maximum brightness as the TK11, but the 'hot spot' is considerably larger.

The side-mounted mode switch is handy, too. Makes a lot of sense.

There may also be an 18650-compatible version of the PD30 on the way, but I wouldn't expect it in the UK until late February.

I've got a TK11 (now TK12?) and wouldn't swap it for anything bar a Wise LED which this side of a lottery win I couldn't dream of being able to afford anyway.
Powerful, unbreakable and small enough to fit easily inside a trouser pocket.

I've had a couple of the Tesco torches in the past and they are garbage.

I have a small LED Lenser P3 and i am very impressed with it
i got it free with my head torch which is the LED H7

The TK12 is a bit of an oddity - it's similar to a TK11 but won't take 18650 batteries (I never bothered to stock it because of this). It's also got a different reflector set-up, but I can't for the life of me remember what the difference is.

The TK11 is now replaced by the TK15, although the TK11 may be available for a while yet.

They can't be that bad, Mrfriend has accidently stolen my 1W tesco torch!

Light thinks it travels faster than anything but it is wrong. No matter how fast light travels, it finds the darkness has always got there first, and is waiting for it.

mine has been through the washing machine and remarkably still worked afterwards minus some paint, I dont use it anymore tho and as Jimbo says im also looking for another more updated pocket torch something the same size or smaller but running of 18650's or AA's 😉

There *may* be something slightly smaller, around 300 lumens that will appear in the spring that will run off an 18650...

Bah,

a battery welded itself into my old tesco torch (to the extent that drilling into the battery and anchoring a screw into it, I fould still not pull it out).

I should have saved myself a couple of quid and put a bid in this morning.

The seller has now withdrawn and re-submitted the item - with postage now over a tenner:

Postage over a tenner is outrageous!

Young Summer was most put out today to be using the old Tesco torch taped to a builders helmet as Daisy had the Raptor.

Still works though 🙂

The AA Tesco tourches were pants, but the C cell ones are actually not bad, people did get confused between the 2 and wondered why some people thought they were crap and some were excellent.
