I had an old MagLite lying around, batteries had gone solid welded in the tube.
Attempting to take it apart I found that the switch was located in an internal thread the same as the one the base plug screwed into. This caused me to take a hacksaw to it so as to enable me to create a short version basically consisting of the head only.

I drilled the base plug and fitted one of my cable glands, same as my caplamp power packs. I then fitted a length of Oldham cable with a standard 8V lamp plug on the end.

The LED module was made up from a DX 3 bore reflector unit. Each bore was drilled out with a 10mm drill which enabled 3 SSC P7s to be fitted. These were backed with a copper plate that had 2 flat/curved ‘legs’ soldered on to make good thermal contact with the inside surface of the lamp.

My drivers are multiple SKU2003256 hacked and modded as follows:
R5 = 0.47 ohms, R1 = 0.27 ohms

Used in pairs, one pair drives 2 of the P7s in series, the other pair the other on its own..

Its plug and play at its simplest. You plug in one of my standard 8V helmet packs and the lamp comes on.
Very bright.
