Petzl have never made a decent lamp.
Despite the number of Petl fans out there my personal view is that I wouldn't rely on one to find the toilet after dark....
The one single thing your life depends on underground is your light yet we still have a prevalent attitude that plenty of spare lights are a good substitute for having a reliable lamp in the 1st place!

sorry to bring up an old thread but 3 petzl stops which recently passed an inspection were found to have cracks on the upper pulley just before use on a oil rig. they say there is no risk of death but......rack, rack, rack, rack
www.irata.org, go to safety notices.

QFT. Rack all the way. How petzl can charge the amounts they do for unregulated lights is beyond me.

Yes, interesting report but I note that those professionals on the oil rigs are ineed actually using the Petzl stop in the first place. Also a design that has not changed in decades says a lot.
STANDBY FOR ACTION!!!!...

just did a quick google, for rope access work the stop does seem to be recommend for drops of less than 100 mt due too its perceived extra safety and smaller size. for higher loads or bigger descents the rack seems to win. i think a whole website could be devoted to the descender issue! :flowers:

Done to death: YAWN
Better to regret something you have done - than to regret something you have not done.
