A few new pages have appeared on Dave Sallery's excellent 'Penmorfa' website which may be of interest!

The eagle-eyed will recognise some of Grahami's photographs from 1975 as found in the album at this http://www.aditnow.co.uk/album/MaenOfferen-1975/?gowhere=%2f

The majority of the photographs were taken by Michael Bishop and include several gems, including views of the Penscoins incline down to Port Dinorwic, Holy War still at work in the last few months of the Dinorwic quarries and some interesting images of Llechwedd and Maenofferen from 1967.

Vanoord, thanks for the update on Dave Sallery's site - such wonderfully evocative photographs!! Many thanks also to Dave Sallery, Michael Bishop & Graham Isherwood for sharing these photos with us.

Dave's site is a regular drop-in for a "fix" - especially when I am working offshore or overseas - it almost makes up for not being in the mountains.

Regarding the loco shed for "Holy War" on the 6th level, it is still there - just. It's been a few years since I was on that level and at that time, the adjacent tip was threatening to push over and overwhelm the shed. It is a wonder that it wasn't demolished along with all of the other buildings in this part of the Quarry. Most of the upper gallery loco sheds survive, although they are all the worse for many years of wind damage now. I will add photos to the Dinorwig album.

The shed that Alice was in* is still there and very intact - I've got a set of photographs to upload once they've been processed, albeit there are a few others to process before I get to them 😞

I have added some photos of Lernion, Australia & 6th level loco sheds as comparison to Michael Bishop's pictures. of course, they are much the worse for wear now, but thankfully, after all this time they still stand.

Actually, it is amazing what can be found at these sheds. I remember about 15 years ago, scratching about in the ash piles outside the one of the sheds and finding bent and burnt firebars from one of the quarry locos buried there - signs of an ashpan not being cleaned out!! I wonder if those bars are still there?
