Hi all looking at paying a visit to cwmystwyth this weekend and was wondering what access arrangements are as I have never been before.

Is it open access or is there some form of access agreement in place and if so who do I contact for a key.

It is mentioned on here many times and a simple search
or a Google search would have given you the answer.

Need help again, just been reading through the access agreements in the above link and it say's contact the Cambrian Mines Trust to arrange access to the underground workings.

In the contact section there is only one method of contact and that is an email address [email protected]. I have just tried sending an email to that address using three different email accounts and all three bounced back saying that the contact email is incorrect and could not be contacted.

Does anybody know who I need to contact at Cambrian Mines Trust or does anyone have a contact number so i can ring them.

You'll have a great time. I only scratched the surface being shown round by Roy at the recent NAMHO. It's a grand place!

Made up for the godforsaken hole Roy showed us the same weekend filled with rotting sheep :lol:

I am up at Nenthead at the moment and just picked up on this.

Sorry if its difficult to remember

There is no access undergound to the general public, but its free access to those properly eqipped and who understand the risks of going undergound and are prepared to accept them.

There are no locks of any kind but please replace any barriers as you found them

I was currently updateding all the websites when Nenthead called.

I have just checked the other webs and they have all been updated, but forgot the "Contact us" on CMT.

I think it would be a good idea for me to make the access position clearer on the website, will do as soon as I get back home.

Thanks Roy for the reply, yeah we are fully equipped and have current BCA insurance, don't worry we will replace any barriers that we move.

I have just updated the trusts website with proper access information which brings us in line with NAL and Dinas.

Sorry about the confusion but things have been happening fast and its been very much as case of feeling the ground as I proceed, if you understand what I mean.

Please be careful in the skipway area as Mr Daggers has reported movement, I need to get concrete in there ASAP.

The sagging timber was like that before the ACRO went in but I need to take a look. I will put the climb up past the stull 'Out of bounds' until remedial action is taken.

I shall probably be there this coming weekend and will report back.

I visited the skipway are in Lefel Fawr at Cwmytwyth and can report that the sagging timber are is as it was, however there has been more collapse at the end onto the fall that bocks direct access to the skipway area.
Failed timbers can be seen above and there are fresh pieces of rotten timber on the fall.

Red arrow shows the area on this old photo, there is more stuff there now.

I would recommend staying clear of the area of the fall inbye although access to the skipway and above appears unaffected.

The timescale of remedial work will probably be early in the new year now, will keep updating our forum as work progresses.

im new to caving / mine exploring been in cwmystwyth before this may be silly but is there a map of cwmystwyth underground ....is there any groups /club about could go with, Theres aber caving club but its pretty much student related :/ slightly awkward when they asked what am i doing there hah:lol:

I recommend Shropshire Caving and Mining Club who have regular trips into there. You will easily find them on the web.

Thanks for the update Roy it must have been those timbers I heard falling although I was right next to the acro prop when I heard the timber crack.

Going to be going back on the 28th and 29th of November for a weekend visit, and hopefully going up the incline to the upper workings.

If you fancy joining us if you have some free time would be great to have someone there who knows the mines.
