Evening all:

I am just about coming to the end of the process of compiling "Mining History 19:3" - the Bulletin of PDMHS. It comprises the papers from the 2013 NAMHO Conference at Aberystwyth.

I am struggling to acquire a photo for the front cover.

I wonder if anyone on here would volunteer to provide a suitable photo. It needs to illustrate the fact that the Conference was in Mid-Wales. It needs to be in colour, in a portrait format and to be of good quality. Unfortunately I cannot provide a fee, but I will ensure that the photographer is credited and the photo will be given a copyright caption.

Can anyone help?

Dave Williams

Had you any particular mine in mind? Surface or underground, or any theme?

I have had tidy up of the above thread due to a number of PMs saying that a specific mine had been mentioned linking to underground photos.

I apologise if your message has been deleted.

Completely understand Simon, and I did not realise until after I had posted it, can I repost a different mine which as already been mentioned, I am of course talking about Ystrad Einion.

No problem at all Steve. PLEASE don't think I was singling you out there. Fully appreciate your photos on Flickr are unnamed. I just needed to have a general tidy up of the thread because a few people had pounced on me

And of course, please feel free to repost the Ystrad Einion link

I think Ystrad Einion or a Cwmystwyth photo such as Herberts Stope.

Only issue that comes to mind is Ystrad Eionion already used quite a lot while Cwmystwyth only became accessible a fortnight before the event, after being sealed since 2005

It is a very memorable occasion for me because of this.

Bwlchglass could be another option?

Although personally I prefer Steve's Ystrad Einion waterwheel photo or a photo of Cwmystwyth.

I have decided that Steve Dagleish's photo of the wheel at Ystrad Einion will be ideal for the cover of Mining History.

I would like to thank him greatly for permission to use the photograph and like to thank everyone who made a useful contribution to the discussion.

Cheers, Dave Williams

A quick supplementary question: What would you call the valley where Ystrad Einion is situated?

Artists Valley / Cwm Einion
Use both names as that's what is on the sign posts.

I think Artist's Valley is a fairly recent coinage.

According to the Cardiganshire 6" map sheet II.SW (surveyed and published 1887) it's just Cwm Einion with the river named Afon Einion and the settlement near the mine named Ystrad-Einion (which presumably accounts for the mine name).

If you go back that far you will get to the period when spelling of Welsh words was optional.
Just look at some of the spelling of mine names. ;(

But yes Cwm Einion is simple.

Disclaimer: Mine exploring can be quite dangerous, but then again it can be alright, it all depends on the weather. Please read the proper disclaimer.
