Hi people, just found this looking for old photos in odd places. Its made my day. Its the Iso Rivolta IR340, 1965, I bought when just a few years old, complete withe old number plate.

The photo was very faded and I had to bring it up in Photoshop.

Well spotted, I owned the car for quite a few years, but when it went I had a BMW 3.0 which was on a K plate, and I can definitely say that one was bought 3 years old, so if the VW was new that would put the picture 72 or 73.

Here is a story about it.
We went for a holiday in Scotland and I found a parking space right next to the hotel. One morning at breakfast the manager came to our table looking a little embarrassed, he complimented me on the car but asked if I could park it a little further away from the building. Apparently I was right next to the kitchen and when I started it up all the cutlery shook.

The wife was as bad as me for cars. No little minis, he she is on the Trenwith car park at St Ives. Vauxhall Ventora, this was the Victor with the 3 litre Cresta engine.

If you owned a Vauxhall in those days you would have no trouble finding your usual parking spot, you just looked for the oil stains.

I had a Ventora in the early 80`s,but it was a 3.3l,K or L reg.

Don't remember the Ventora but my girlfriend when I first started to drive also passed her test and her Dad bough her a secondhand Viva. We drove it about 200 yard from her house to a junction where she stopped a little harshly, nothing excessive just stood on the brake a little harder than might usually be expected. The engine mounts both collapsed and the engine dropped onto the crossmember :lol:

I gave her a Triumph Dolomite after that, she was quite a girl though, strong as an ox, called me at work one day to say it had broke down at the bottom of what was quite a substantial hill up to her parents house. I said I'd come and tow it but she said not to bother, she'd got out and pushed it up to the hill into the garden!

She later moved in with me at my parents house, on one memorable occasion she went to open a door that was locked and ripped the handle clean off!

Yes, "the weaker sex" is total rubbish. There used to be lady at the karate club, I remember her well. A nice person, but bloody good.

By the way, that Iso, they didn't have any power steering, and the clutch, well I wont go into that. Driving it was good training.

I am going to have to watch out don’t get my parking spot mixed up with you lot as my Landrover likes leaking the 80/90 gear oil out , since the Covid 19 she has also developed a cold and sneezing the oil filler cap a bit loose loosing her engine oil also but for 34 years old still goes strong !

I was a motorbiker in my youth, until I got married then I was a Saab enthusiast. I remember an accident in the late 70s when I was rear-ended by an Audi and hit a Rover 3500. The Rover had its rear bashed in, the Audi had its bumper pushed up to the engine and bonnet bent. My Saab had a few scratches. I drove a Saab a few years ago until they went bump. Now, to my almost shame, I drive an Audi.

I should have titled this thread "Life on Mars" if anyone remembers the TV series.
Anyone else got interesting pics to put up?

Its all been part of a house clear out for me, and attempting to sort, collate, and label hundreds of old photos, surface and underground, of mining sites.
Unfortunately, some stuff has disappeared. I have pictures of Polberro including a massive surface collapse that occurred years ago between the Engine House and the road. Also ones of the inside of the late George Halls mill at Esgairmyne.
I will just keep looking.

Not going back quite as far but this is the Dolomite. Owned it from around 89 to 93. It was a 1978 car. Note the CB ariel :lol:

This on the other hand is my mate Dave's Metro, I was asleep in the passenger seat when he had some sort of brain fart and pulled out of a side road into the oncoming traffic, definitely a rude awakening! This occured some time in the early 90's. It actually held up pretty well considering. The other car was a largish Rover and ended up on it's side in a ditch quite some distance away. Fortunately no major injuries sustained by anyone!

Jesus I feel major young I never got to witness any of these now days the old cars for me are like p rej unless you talk about Landrover’s I was born in 92 so only 28 :lol:

Count yourself lucky, back in the days most cars were sh*t. Anything built by British Leyland tended to melt in the rain. Old cars (with the exception of Landys) are rubbish.

This is very true, frosty winter mornings were accompanied by the sound of starter motors barely turning and bonnets being opened and closed all up the street. Weekends were spent with various gadgets and gizmos and colourtune plugs to balance carbs and adjust ignition timings returning everything back to correct setting which they had mysteriously drifted away from since the previous weekend.

The modern exhaust pipe is a particularly miraculous device compared to it's forbears in the previous century, that although seemingly robust prior to installation would assume the properties of a net curtain and detach themselves from the manifold and any support brackets (where you fortunate enough to have some remaining) within a few weeks! :lol:
